Family Law & Mediation
Most people come to a family lawyer at the worst point of a long stretch, already tired of the conflict and wanting it to be over. The goal is not to win every argument. It is to get you to a stable arrangement you can live with, without spending more money and more years than the dispute is worth.
Lord Law handles divorce, custody, support, and related matters in Douglas County and throughout Nebraska — for couples who agree on most things and for those who agree on nothing.
This office also practices mediation and negotiation, and can work toward an agreed resolution where both people are willing. Where they are not — or where there is a history of abuse or a serious imbalance of power — mediation is the wrong tool and litigation is the right one. That judgment gets made honestly at the outset.

Mediation & Negotiation
Contested litigation is expensive and slow, and the outcome is handed to a judge who has met your family for a total of a few hours.
Where it is possible and safe, settling is almost always better.
AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION: TWO DIFFERENT ROLES
As a mediator, we do not represent either party. We do not give legal advice to either side, and nothing said in the session creates an attorney-client relationship. Each participant is encouraged to have their own attorney review any agreement before signing.
As an advocate, we represent one client and negotiate on their behalf.
These roles cannot be combined in the same matter. Serving as a mediator for a dispute disqualifies this office from later representing either party in it.
