About Lord Law

Lord Law was founded with clients in mind. In recent years, it has been increasingly common for law firms offering digital services and representation to focus more on automation, and less on representation. In the context of national immigration firms, this has led to a widespread problem of clients feeling as if, although they have paid for legal representation, they have a hard time getting in touch with their attorney.

Not at Lord Law. We ensure to be available for client inquiries as they arise, and provide one-on-one access to an attorney, no matter what.

Joseph S. Lord, Esq.
Owner/Principal Attorney

I have spent over eight years as an attorney. A big part of my practice has been in immigration law — removal defense, asylum, humanitarian relief for survivors of crime and abuse, family petitions, and federal litigation. Along the way, I have also represented clients in state court for a variety of different issues. For three years of my career, I led a legal team at a nonprofit here in Omaha, carrying more than a hundred of my own cases while supervising attorneys and staff. After that, I helped build and run the legal department of a national immigration firm.

That last part is why Lord Law exists.

I watched the same thing happen as firms grew: the work got more efficient, and the client got further away. Calls routed to case managers. Updates delivered by someone who had never read the file. Clients who could not tell you their attorney’s name.

That is not what people think they are paying for. When your case is the thing keeping you up at night, you should be able to reach the person handling it.

So this is a small firm on purpose. You work with me — at the consultation, on the filing, and in the courtroom.

Education

2015-2018

Juris Doctor
Creighton University School of Law

I earned my law degree at Creighton with a certificate in litigation and the school’s excellence award in cross-examination. That emphasis was deliberate. I wanted to be in courtrooms, and most of my career since has been spent in them.

2015-2018

Master of Science

Creighton University School of Law

I received my Master's in Negotiations and Conflict Resolution. Most lawyers learn to negotiate by trial and error. I went back and studied it formally, which is part of why I also serve as a mediator — and why I will tell you honestly when a case is better settled than fought.

2012-2015

Bachelor of Science
University of Nebraska Omaha

Before law, I studied botany and plant propagation. I switched to political science in my last year at UNO, once it was clear I was more interested in advocating for people than cultivating plants — though both take patience, and immigration cases take considerably more.
